Winter hangs on, high on Mt. Washington Auto Road
Nat Putnam moves snow from the Mt. Washington Auto Road in the area of the Cragway snowdrift, elevation approximately 5,000 feet. Each year the road crew must clear the drift in order to open the 7.6 mile road to auto traffic in May. Mt. Washington receives an average of more than 200 inches of snow each winter.
