Gilead July 1
July has arrived, Friends and Family Day is over, and now Hugh and I need to get plans finalized for the Oxford County Mineral and Gem Show. It is coming right up on July 10 and 11. The show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. There is something there for everyone. The items that the dealers sell range from mineral samples to finished jewelry.
My brother, Steve McLain, celebrated a birthday last Sunday, June 27. Happy Belated Birthday.
One of Gilead's Selectmen had a chance to be a part of the rescue last week of Millie Jackson when her car went into Round Pond. Jeremy Morin just happened to be driving by when he saw the car in the water and the crowd on the bank. When he found out that there was someone still in the car and two people in the water trying to help her, he did not hesitate, but jumped in to assist. It was a team effort by all those who stopped to help.
Andre and Eileen Dupont of Gorham, N.H., hosted a family BBQ at their home last Saturday. Those that attended were Lorraine and Louise Bouffard from Quebec City, Quebec (cousins); Tom and Jennifer Dupont (Andre & Eileen's son & wife); Gerard Dupont; Lise McLain; Aline Dupont; and Barry Normandeau from Groveton, N.H.
Hugh and I had company this past weekend. Our granddaughters, Annie and Sidney, spent Saturday and Sunday night with us. On Sunday, we spent some time at Libby Pool in Gorham so the girls could go swimming.
Mary Tyler and Sandra Laughy stopped by the house Sunday with pictures of the new baby in the family. Olivia May Bell was born Friday, June 25, at 7:12 a.m., weighing 6 pounds even, and 18" long. She is the daughter of Adam and Jessie Bell. Sandra and Harry Laughy raised Adam from the time he was 7 years old.
Route 2 construction is still on-going. Last Friday, Pike Industries showed up with paving equipment, but the rain on Monday delayed any paving projects. They are hoping to get the paving done and start re-routing traffic over the new bridge before too long.
