The children that tend the children’s garden for the summer program with Gardner Roberts Memorial Library completed their first harvest on Wednesday, Aug. 18. They picked string beans and sold them to finance next year’s garden. They picked enough zucchinis for each child to take one home at the end of the day. After all the hard work they had a treat. Homemade hot fudge sundaes, mmmmm!
Herb Adams is recovering at home following surgery for a hip replacement. He is reported to be progressing well. Have a quick recovery Herb!
Two bicyclists from New Zealand stopped to chat with the grass cutters at the Hanover Cemetery last week. They admitted their trip did not start in New Zealand. They were biking from Montreal, Canada to New Orleans. They like to stop along the way to visit with roadside workers. Several years ago they did the same thing in Europe.
Here is a reminder: The Rumford Grange will have their annual yard and bake sale on Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Rumford Center Grange hall from 9 a.m.to 2 p.m. A light lunch will be available. The Hanover Select Board had their monthly meeting Aug. 17. The Board decided to consult an attorney relating to several legal matters. The recently completed audit was discussed and the date for the annual Town Meeting was tentatively set for Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Hanover Town House. They also discussed town roads, town buildings, solid waste and Planning Board minutes. The meeting was quite lengthy lasting for two and one half hours with 18 seasonal and year-round residents attending.
Erik Bindl, the World Guy, and his son, Ethan, began their hike for diabetes April 22 in Washington, D.C., while rolling a huge canvas earth. Their trip concluded at the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park on Aug. 18. You may remember that they walked through this area at the end of July when the Bindls and their dog, Nice, came walking down Route 2. They are now retracing their walk but in a car this time. As of last Sunday they were in Massachusetts.
School starts today. Please be extra careful around the school buses and make sure all the students get to school and home again safely.
