A graveside service took place at Hanover Cemetery on Saturday, June 26 for Ida Moore, age 94, more recently from Norway and formerly from Mexico. She was the widow of Floyd Moore who died in 1963. He was a nephew of Ira Brown, a life-long resident of Hanover. The service included live music performed by Mrs. Moore’s son, local entertainer Terry Moore. Barry Woods, another local entertainer, also played guitar and sang.
A family has moved into a workshop on Baby Brook Lane. Under the workshop would be more correct. Four gray fox pups have been seen going in and out and playing puppy games in the yard and deep grass nearby. The mom gray fox has been seen sneaking about Hanover Village in search of food for the little ones. Watch it! Household cats seem to be a favorite. Although gray foxes are not too common in this area they do range from southern Canada to northern Columbia and Venezuela. The pups usually stay with the mother until fall. Occasionally they climb trees for food or protection.
The Hanover Town Office reports a surge of tax payments in the last few days of June. For those that didn’t get in before June 30 the taxes still need to be paid. If not, later this fall 30-day notices will be issued followed by tax liens. Oh dear, let’s not do that.
We truly hope everyone has the very best of holiday weekends. Look forward to a nice sunny day, good swimming, go fishing if you like and take in the fireworks. Just do not drink and drive. It is my favorite holiday even if I only sit in a lawn chair all day and pig out on hamburgers and hot dogs.
