Bring a Casino to Oxford

To the Editor:

I am part of a group of Maine businessmen that propose to bring a resort casino to Oxford.I am writing you to ask for your support to encourage your Bethel Chamber Board members to publicly support this project.When passed on Nov. 2, a Yes vote on Question 1 would bring one of the largest privately funded developments to Oxford County and create one of the largest taxpayers in the state.

The the resort casino will:

--Create hundreds of construction jobs and thousands of permanent jobs.

--Generate tens of millions of dollars in revenue every year without raising taxes.

--Attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to Maine every year during all four seasons.

Last week a University of Maine Economics professor reviewed the economic benefits of a resort casino in Oxford which clearly supports the economic development to our area, I have attached their website: http://umaine.edu/soe/files/2009/06/SOE590.pdf.I have also attached a letter highlighting the benefits of a resort casino in Oxford. ???

???This is a huge opportunity for our area. Now is the time to take action.Thursday, Sept. 9, the Chamber will decide whether or not to publicly support this project.I urge you to please call or e-mail your board members to voice your support for economic development, tourism attraction, new business development and job creation in western Maine.
