Local Food Connection

This summer the Local Food Connection is enthusiastically supporting our local farmers' markets (Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.). Just this past Saturday when I was there, all the farmers seemed to be doing brisk business. That's great to see! Thanks for buying their products.

Next Saturday, July 7, will be a special Saturday in Bethel with the wonderful Bethel Art Fair taking place on the Common all day. We hope you will also come by the Bethel Farmers' Market where there will be some extra events taking place. First, Suzanne Dunham of the Dunham Farm and I will spend the morning talking about several garden herbs, their wholesome qualities, and some tasty ways you can use them. Second, Cathi di Coca will demonstrate grilling of local vegetables many of which she will find at the market that day. We will have free samples, and our local farmers also plan to offer these herbs and vegetables for sale.

Farmers' markets are lovely ways for communities to come together, to talk about the food we grow and eat here in Maine, to help local farmers continue their work, and to encourage young farmers to develop thriving businesses. Please come next Saturday for all of these reasons.
