A CAMPAIGN FOR UNDER $1,000

When I declared my candidacy for the office of County Commissioner for District 2 in Oxford County, I pledged myself to see how little I could spend in running a successful campaign. The campaign was capped at $1,000. The total cost at the end will be $884.89.

Meanwhile I have seen headlines in the media inferring that those spending the most money will be victorious. There is something wrong with our democratic process when money is the key factor and not the integrity or past performance of the candidate.

My experience as Register of Deeds East for 20 years gives me a unique grasp of the workings of county government where I was known for coming in under-budget most years and cooperated with the commissioners when asked to cut my budget. This is the spirit I will bring to this governing body if elected.

The voters of District 2 have an opportunity to support the idea that elections can be won without the expenditures of a great deal of money. The results on Nov. 6 will be the answer.
