MollyOckett Day Donations
To the Editor,
I attended the Greenwood Town Meeting on Saturday to answer questions regarding the warrant article the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce had, requesting the equivalent of $1.25 per resident (for a total of $1,038), specifically to help fund Mollyockett Days. Although the article was defeated by a very close margin, there were residents present who voted for the funding. The same held true in the Town of Woodstock where there were residents who thought their Town should help to support this traditional and growing event.
As I mentioned at the meeting on Saturday, the majority of the funding for Mollyockett Days is raised from businesses that have been very generous. The costs for organizing the event have increased as we are expanding the entertainment, adding prize money for parade floats, and adding an essay contest with prize money for the winners as well as all the other facets of the day that our citizens have come to expect, such as fireworks. Mollyockett day provides entertainment and fun for families from communities in the area. It also attracts visitors, which helps not only our local economy, but also supports the many community causes that are using Mollyockett Day for fundraising purposes.
In our quest to broaden the support of Mollyockett Day, we would like to invite anyone who would like to help out to make a donation of any amount. Donations can be sent to the Chamber with “Mollyockett Day” in the memo area of the check and they will specifically be used for that purpose. Donations can be mailed to PO Box 1247, Bethel, ME 04217.
Additionally, as was mentioned in last week’s letter, the chamber is seeking willing volunteers to be a part of our Mollyockett Day team! Give us a call if you are interested (824-2282).
Many thanks, in advance, for your support!
Robin Zinchuk, Executive Director
