A proposal for an 8,300-square-foot commercial retail building on Route 2 was presented to the Bethel Planning Board last week by Peter Kailey of Black Diamond Kailey Real Estate. If approved, the structure would be located on 3.23 acres of land currently owned by Savage Land Development on the north side of Mayville Road. The project is titled Sport Thoma: A Commercial Development. The building would house Sport Thoma and Best Tunes, with one additional retail space for lease. Sport Thoma is a ski shop owned by Kailey and based in Lincoln, N.H., with other locations in Waterville Valley, Conway and Danbury, N.H. as well as Westford, Mass., according to its website. The Bethel plan estimates 10 employees at the site, which currently has a single family home, extensive lawn areas, and a commercial equipment storage area. The home would be moved. The plan was presented to the board by Bob Berry of Main-Land Development Consultants of Livermore Falls. The board will further consider the application at its May 22 meeting.
