For the first time in more than a decade, the Telstar High School Boys’ Cross-country team ran themselves onto the podium Saturday at the Mountain Valley Conference Championships with a third place finish among the 11 schools competing.
The Rebels were led by Josef Holt-Andrews, who placed third.
Not far behind was Ben Lewis in 10th and Adam Mahar in 11th place.
The third-place finish was also supported by personal-best performances by Matthew Keane (34th), Tim Jewell (39th) and Casey Kellner (48th).
In one of the fastest girls’ races in history at the MVC Championships, Morgan Lee ran a strong race, finishing fifth overall.
Despite the cold, rainy and windy conditions she improved on her time by almost 45 seconds over last year and just missed fourth place by less than one second.
This Saturday the team will compete at the Western Maine Regional meet in Cumberland, with the goal of qualifying for the opportunity to run at the Maine State Championships on Oct. 30.
The top-seeded Telstar Field Hockey Team was scheduled to face Freeport yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at home in the quarterfinal playoffs of Western Class C.
The Rebels’ regular season record was 13-1.
Girls’ club soccer returned to Telstar this year after a season off. For more and photos, see Page 10.
