The Letter B Notch Riders are scheduled to meet Sunday, July 8, in the Upton House. They have permission to use the section of Cable Road that is not in Grafton Notch State Park. As part of getting the trail ready for public use, an approved crossing or a bridge will need to be built to cross Silver Stream. Anyone out there have four large, long utility poles they are willing to donate, or sell at a very low cost? Call or e-mail me with the details, if you do.

A young bull moose has spent some time in our field and on our lawn recently. He was within 30 feet of our kitchen window and was not bothered at all by us watching him. Penny and I also saw a newborn fawn in the same field {different day}. We could see the doe clearly, but could get only glimpses, because of the tall grass, of the fawn as its mother cleaned it. We watched it as it started to nurse and as it walked on wobbly legs and followed its mother out of sight. Penny and I were so caught up in watching that neither of us thought to grab a camera. The deer were probably too far away for either of our cameras to get a good picture anyway. But I wish one of us had thought to try.
