Hanover

The Hanover Select Board met Oct. 16 to discuss the business of the month. They learned that the tax collector had issued nine thirty-day notices for unpaid 2011 taxes. Discussed was the recently completed roadwork along Howard Pond Road and South Shore Road. Attending the meeting were Bob and Peg Susbury. Peg gave a report about the recent Celebration of Fall event that proved to be a great fundraiser. The Board was also aware of a Gardner Roberts Memorial Library request for funding from the town to help support the Library activities and maintenance. The Board reviewed the recent minutes of the Planning Board. The Board accepted the resignation of Bruce Powell as a member of the Tri-Town Solid Waste and Recycle Board. Clem reported that the office was looking for one Republican Ballot Clerk to fill a vacancy created when Paul Ramsey resigned from that position. Any Hanover Republican interested in working Election Day should contact the Town Office.

The next several weeks will be busy in the Town of Hanover. Tuesday, Oct. 30, the Annual Town Meeting will take place at the Hanover Town House at 12 Howard Pond Road at 6 p.m. Most of the business articles are fairly similar to most years. Officials expect tax collections will be slightly higher than the past several years but not as great as was first expected. School expenditures and road costs are the primary culprits.

State and Federal elections will be Nov. 6. In Hanover voting will start at 10 a.m. and conclude at 8 p.m. As usual on presidential election years a busy day is expected.

Perhaps the most important upcoming date isn’t a political meeting but is Halloween on Oct. 31. A good place for youngsters to meet is the Annual Halloween Party at the Rumford Grange. There will be goodies and prizes. Stop by between 5 and 7:30 p.m.

Coming up on Sunday, Nov. 11, Rumford Grange will have a turkey dinner and all the fixings starting at noon and ending at 1:30 p.m. Veterans eat for free, other adults are $8 and children under 12 are $4.

Shawnee and Makala were weekend guests of their grandparents, Donna and Clem Worcester.
