Hanover

It is the season for Christmas shopping and gatherings. Let us remind you one last time about the Hanover tree lighting and gathering. It will start at 6 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Town Office for the tree lighting and then a walk or ride through Hanover streets to the Town House at 12 Howard Pond Road for a social gathering of friends and neighbors. Everyone is welcome.

Can you believe it? We made a mistake! Anyone licensing a dog capable of producing offspring is required to pay the fee of $11. Spayed or neutered dogs only cost $6. Remember to license your dog soon because the end of the year is coming right up. A portion of the licensing fee is used to help fight animal abuse in Maine.

Another animal story. Fifty-eight deer were tagged at Gordie Howe’s Store before the muzzleloader season started. While we are at it, the 2013 hunting and fishing licenses are now available at the Hanover Town Office. They are not only great Christmas gifts but anyone might avoid missing a hunting or fishing trip on Jan. 1 for lack of a license.

What an adventure! We took our twin granddaughters to a Mexico shopping center last weekend to visit Santa. What we were expecting was far from reality, as both Shawnee and Makala took their turn on Santa’s knee and were patient enough to sit with each other for a third picture with Santa. Despite a day of snow, freezing rain and rain, all the shopping centers appeared to be quite busy.

Condolences are extended to D.A. Wilson and family on the passing of Rita.

Skip and Jen Mendenhall from the Howard Pond Road are receiving congratulations on the birth of their first child, a boy.

Get well wishes go to Wilma Rector who recently has been feeling poorly but is now reported as a little better.
