Gilead
The last day of January has arrived and I feel that the ever changing weather has made it a long month. February always seems to go by quickly, since it is a short month, but March is one of those months that can go on forever. The wind blew so hard last week that it blew over the pole that holds our bird feeder. Gilead lost power for about four hours last Friday morning between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.
My brother, Steve McLain, has been busy at work (MSAD 44 maintenance garage) with all this cold weather that has been happening. It takes a lot for the crew to keep the buses operating safely at all times.
Steve and Lise McLain attended the 1st birthday party for their nephew, Teddy Crockett, the son of Jarrod and Paige Crockett. It was an enjoyable experience, and they want to thank the parents for inviting them.
Steve and Lise McLain want to wish a Happy Birthday to two of their sons, Major Stephen McLain, III whose birthday is Jan. 27 and Joey McLain whose birthday is Jan. 30, plus a Happy Birthday to their daughter-in-law Carole Mason whose birthday is Jan. 30. Major McLain was born on his maternal great-grandmother Cora Heath's birthday. A belated Happy Birthday wish goes out to their nephew, Jarrod Crockett, whose birthday is January 20.
Mary Tyler made a trip to Tilton, N.H., recently. While there, she made a stop at BJ’s to stock up and to visit friends and relatives. She met up with Karen Caveney and Karen’s niece, Angela Carson, and went out to lunch. Mary also said that she has had a hawk hanging around behind her house. She said it looked like a young Sharp-shinned Hawk.
We have had a couple of new visitors to the bird feeder. There has been a Snow Bunting hanging around this past week. A Mink also appeared out front by the feeder and was looking around where the red squirrels had been hiding seeds. There are still several turkeys that appear almost every day to pick up seeds that have fallen from the feeder.
Gilead Historical Society
The GHS is happy to welcome Mike Stowell as the latest Life Member of the society. Mike has been with the GHS since the beginning and has been keeping up with all our projects. He actually had a chance to visit Gilead on Friends and Family Day this past June with his family.
