Hanover

We are sorry that we didn’t get Hanover news into the paper last week. We will try again to do better.

The county commissioners discussed the citizens' petition for winter maintenance of South Shore Road for the second time at their Feb. 19 meeting. After reviewing Hanover records as to the procedure for closing the road for winter maintenance in 2003, the commissioners decided Hanover procedures were valid and correctly executed. If Hanover wants to continue the policy of winter road maintenance closing the process will need to be redone this year.

The Hanover select persons’ meeting was Feb. 19. Several topics were discussed. During his report on solid waste and recycling Bob Fortin surprised the select board by resigning as a member of Tri-Town Solid Waste and Recycling Board (Bethel, Newry and Hanover) and the Oxford County Solid Waste and Recycling Board. Chairperson Brenda Gross thanked Bob for his many years of service on the two boards. The annual assessors’ meeting will be Saturday, March 30 from 10 to 11 a.m. That is the time for property owners to comment on valuations on their property. The Board discussed spring heavy load postings on town roads. They decided to watch weather conditions and post the roads when needed.

February has proven to be a stormy month. Every two or three days some snow piled down on us. Last week everyone was tired of the cloudy, gloomy weather and what happened? A two-day snowstorm that was one of the biggest so far this winter.
