The meeting for the trustees of Gardner Roberts Memorial Library was March 12. The reports of the secretary, treasurer and librarian were approved. It was noted that the website had been discontinued because there were no hits. Linda Beaudoin had requested a donation to Maine Adaptive Skiing in support of Andy Barlow. A donation of $100 was provided. Lynne Ramsey suggested that produce from the Children’s Garden could be donated to a food pantry. Darlene Baker has been gathering material for the 2013 quilt. She said it would be a calendar quilt in earthones. Squares need to be done by June 15.
The library was closed from Jan. 28 to Feb. 16 due to the extremely cold weather. It is now open as usual. Already they are planning for 2013 Fall Festival. Books from a Libri Grant have arrived. There were 72 books valued over $1,000.
Maria Holloway donated Finding Your Inner Moose by Susan Poulin.
Recent books purchased are: “Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power” by Jon Meacham: “Thomas Jefferson and his Slaves” by Henry Wiencek; “Island Schoolhouse: One Room for All” by Eva Murray; “Mountains of Maine: Intriguing Stories Behind Them” by Steve Pinkham; “Old Tales of the Maine Woods” by Steve Pinkham; “An Army at Dawn: The War in North Africa” by Rick Atkinson; “The Day of the Battle” also by Rick Atkinson; “A Week in Winter” by Maeve Binchy; “The Last Runaway” by Tracy Chevalier; “Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker” by Jennifer Chiverini; “The Husband List” by Janet Evanovich; “The Member of the Wedding” by Cason McCullers.
On a cold March day with the wind whipping abound it would be a good thing to sit with a new book and read.
