At their meeting on Tuesday evening the Selectmen appointed the following people to the Planning Board: Gary Meisner to a three- year term, Donna Libby and Rhonda Jodrey to two-year alternate positions. Those appointed to the Tax Map Committee are charged with bringing a report and alternatives to Town Meeting 2014 and are: Nadine Ross, Ken Dixon, John Emery, Fred Detheridge, Trudy Akers, Marshall Meisner and your columnist as chair. Susan Merrow was named as Selectboard chair for this year.
In other town affairs news, the Town Office is having a drawing for three old office chairs on April 9. Call the Town Office if you wish to be included in this drawing, 392-3302. There will be a special Town Meeting on Saturday, April 20, at 10 a.m. in the Town Hall. This meeting is to give voters the opportunity to raise and appropriate additional funds of $72,000 per the request of SAD 44 School Board. The money is in exchange for keeping Andover Elementary School open for the 2013-14 school year as negotiations continue. There will be an informational meeting on Thursday, April 11, 7 p.m. at the Town Hall to discuss the warrant for the special meeting.
At a meeting on Saturday evening the Sno-Valley Snow Goers elected the following officers: President, Dick Merrill; Vice-President, Barry Martin; Secretary, Lisa Parker; Treasurer, Rusty Parker; Membership Coordinator, George Thew; and Maine Snowmobile Association Correspondent, Cookie Thew.
If you're looking for things to do this coming weekend, you won't have to leave Andover, as there will be plenty of fun activities to attend. On Friday evening, the First Congregational Church will be hosting a free dinner and a movie at 6 p.m. in the CEB. The movie is “The Letter Writer.” Donations will be accepted. On Saturday, April 13, at 4 p.m. there will be a benefit action for the Kevin Hughes family in the Town Hall (down stairs). Not only can you help a deserving family, but you can bid on items you might want or need such as gravel, firewood, oil and filter changes, Loudon Speedway tickets, a picnic table, two quilts, two nights at a campground, framed art work, a Jonsered chain saw, hardwood furniture and a pontoon trip or rafting trip. This event will be followed by a concert with Pete Coolidge and friends in the upper Town Hall at 7 p.m. Tickets for this event are $10.
Condolences to Mark and Angie (Percival) Shraiberg. Mark's brother passed away unexpectedly last week in Colorado. Mark is one of our school board members.
Don't forget to mark your calendar for the Birthday Supper to be held April 27 at the CEB. This event began in 1938 and was first held in the Town Hall until the CEB was built in the 1960s. There will be two sittings at 5 and 6 p.m.
