The Upton Community Christmas Party was lots of fun. Charlotte

opened with a story about Jesus and then Deborah read “Twas The Night Before Christmas.” The children recited poems and sang carols. The food, gifts and games were all enjoyable and Santa was a big success with the children and the adults.

The Ladies Aid plan to resume Sunday breakfasts in January.

The selectmen are scheduled to meet Dec. 11 in the town office.

Kathy Kahler wrote new words to a poem by Robert Herrick; this is her version:

  Gather ye firewood while ye may

  Old temps they are a-dropping.

  Mother Nature's cold and snow

  No man shall e'er be stoppin.

If your copy of the Upton Column was blurred and smudged last week, it was not my fault. If you thought that I stopped writing in almost mid-sentence, again it was not my doing. The column was cut short in the Citizen, but was complete online.

This is the way the last of the column was written and sent: I have been informed that I owe an apology to the Upton House cat. It seems that she is overweight and took offense to my comments about her sitting under the bird feeder and waiting for a meal to drop in. After learning of what I wrote about her, she hid in the barn for four days. When she finally came out, she would not look her owners in the eyes for three more days.
