Upton

When I saw a semi-local woman pulled over by a sheriff in town, it reminded me of a story Mom told me. Years ago, local residents complained to the powers that be about traffic speeding through town. So, the state police set up a speed trap and issued several speeding tickets —— all of them to Upton residents!

Jennie Bernier’s housewarming gathering in Naples was a great success. There were about 50 friends and relatives that enjoyed the BBQ, and loved her new home and hospitality.

It’s with sadness I report the death of Uncle Ray Bernier, who died Monday, April 26 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. We offer our condolences to his family. Ray had many friends in Upton who will miss him.

Ladies Aid members will be meeting at 10 on Thursday to work on a quilt. Bring your lunch and your sewing machine. Or, if you don’t sew, you can pin the pieces together for those who do!

We have a woodpecker that’s been incessantly tapping on our steel roof for three weeks or so. Bob thinks he’s trying to lure a mate with all that racket. If that’s true, he should have realized by now that there’s no bird around interested in dating him. Maybe if he had a quieter approach? Or, better for us, he'd try another area.

Folks who spend the winter in a warmer climate are returning for the summer. Welcome home, Ginny.

On Saturday, Angel Roy of Barnet, Vt., enjoyed an exciting game at Fenway with her husband, Lane. It took the Sox to the last minute, but they won and made Angel’s birthday trip complete!

Enjoy your week. Selah.
