My daughter, Marcia Smith, called Wednesday to tell me her brother-in-law, Donald Smith, Jay, was taken by ambulance to emergency at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, early Wednesday morning and was operated on later in the day where the surgeon took out a golf-ball-size tumor that had burst and filled his stomach with blood. Smith spent several years in Bethel where he was pastor of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene in the late seventies and early eighties. He has lost a lot of blood but barring complications is expected to make a full recovery. No word yet on whether the tumor was cancerous or benign but the surgeon said he thought it was benign.

Lorraine Larson had supper with Owen and Debbie Brown Wednesday evening and then went to Praise Assembly of God, Rumford, to a concert put on by Jonathan Martin of Compassion Interna-tional Ministries.

Al and Crystal Lake spent Thursday to Monday in Maryland.
