SAD ARRIVALS IN BETHEL
A week or so ago, while enjoying the walking trail near Davis Park with my children, I was very dismayed to see that some individuals have seen fit to write offensive grafitti on the beams of the covered bridge. I don’t remember exactly who built it, but obviously much hard work and pride went into its design and construction.
I’ve always liked admiring the structure as I passed through it, and it was a shame to see it serve as the canvas for such inappropriate messages. I was there this weekend for the Skatepark fundraiser, and I was even more upset to notice that, now, some have seen fit to knock out three boards on the sides of the bridge and further damage one of the corners. When will this stop? When the bridge no longer has space on which to write, or when it falls down?
Graffiti and vandalism are two things I don’t want to see establish themselves in Bethel. I hope the perpetrators are soon found and made to clean and repair the bridge.
As a community, let’s all work together to keep an eye on this bridge and the persons we see spending time on or near it, so as to prevent further damage, and perhaps help the police find the ones responsible for it. The park and path are a great part of our town.
