Upton

Carol and Charlie will host a sliding party Friday, Feb. 17, starting at 4:30 p.m. If ice conditions allow, a skating area will be available. Please plan to come and enjoy the bonfire and the camaraderie.

The Upton Ladies Aid Association is planning a pizza party for Saturday, Feb. 18, 5 until 8 p.m.

My son, Neil, my son-in-law, Eric, and I made the trek to Blue Hill, Maine, (not quite 400 miles round trip), Saturday to purchase and bring back another T340 bulldozer to use for parts. It is in pretty good shape considering that it is 50-plus years old. Now I am not sure which machine will be for parts and which will be the one I will try to resurrect.

The snowmachine trails saw a lot of use this past weekend. We could hear the sleds and see their lights until close to midnight as they went along the trail across the valley. The trails that I rode late Sunday afternoon were as good as should be expected after a high traffic weekend.

My sister, Kathy, reminded me that our mother always referred to her Upton Column as her items. I believe she had to get her “items” in the mail no later than Friday so they would be in Bethel in time to be in the next week's paper. The creation and use of e-mail certainly shortens that time frame.

Mr. Harvey Small pointed out to me that his mailbox is now setup. He did not admit to becoming a resident of Upton. Perhaps he is waiting to see how severe the remainder of the winter is before he takes that step.
