Band's Spring Concert is Sunday

To the Editor:

The Mahoosuc Community Band is excited to perform its spring concert Sunday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at the West Parish Congregational Church in Bethel. The concert includes a variety of styles, including “Stephen Foster Fantasy” arranged by James Burden, “Shenandoah”, “Chicago” arrangement of the Pop band’s music, “The King Across the Water” featuring the percussion of Jim Chandler, Scott Hynek and Lyn Arizzi, “The Water is Wide” arranged by Rick Kirby and other favorites.

The band, directed by Patricia Boyle-Wight, is preparing for the summer, with Memorial Day parades, Mollyockett Day (July 17) parade and concert, and end-of-the-summer concert Monday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m. at Gould Academy’s Bingham Hall in Bethel.

Again the band wants to thank the community businesses for supporting our annual ad campaign for our programs. Thanks to Gloria Lewis for securing those donations to keep our band performing music in the community. And thanks to the individuals that have made donations. These financial donations help us with music purchases, and equipment purchases.

The band rehearses on Monday nights at 7 p.m. at the West Parish Congregational Church. New members are always welcome. How long has it been since you picked up that clarinet or that trumpet? It only takes a little time to blow that dust off, get your lip in shape and remember the fingering. Maybe you need to buy a new reed or get those valves oiled. Music is something to enjoy throughout our lifetime. Young people from area middle schools or high schools are welcome to join the band for the summer or the fall.
