Telstar contractors' Day

On Saturday, May 19, the Telstar Middle and High School complex was buzzing with a variety of interior and outside projects. This activity was the result of the anxiously awaited 4th Annual Telstar Complex Contractors' Day.

More than 40 contractors, subcontractors, community members, high school students and parents, Telstar Middle and High School staff and administrators worked on a variety of projects, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. Within 10 hours volunteers performed and completed these tasks:

Interior projects:

Interior painting of a middle school classroom.

Interior painting of high school entrance area.

Construction of storage units for physical education and athletic equipment.

Makeover of middle and high school bulletin boards.

Exterior projects:

Ditching of “Rebel Lane” from Telstar complex sign, around student parking.

Entrance and along middle school ball field.

Unplugging and clean up of drains and drainage areas around athletic fields and student parking area.

Exterior painting of football boosters' food stand, track/football storage building, ski hut and adjoining storage building, and second new greenhouse.

Infield work on high school's softball and baseball fields and middle school softball field.

Weeding, edging and mulching of seven flower gardens.

Cutting of trees and brush clean up of area between staff parking lot and maintenance building.

Painting of picnic tables.

Trash pick up of entire complex.

Planting of flower pots, planters at front entry/canopy areas.

Completed exterior construction of second new greenhouse- installed siding,and trim.

Greenery for donations of gardening supplies. And, a special note of gratitude to THS and TMS staff members for their donations and contributions to the day's luncheon.

We are also grateful to community members and friends for their work: Bethel Rotarian Scott Hynek, SAD 44 Board Member Roberta Taylor and neighbor and school volunteer Jewel Clark. Special appreciation to Julie Hart and Mahoosuc Kids Association for donation of plants and luncheon items.

Telstar High School students who performed a variety of interior and exterior project tasks and earned community service were: John Brooks, Ashley Conkright, Anthony Dirago, Jessica Kelly, Taylor Kelly, Boston Ludden, Nick Mills, Kyle Peterson, Danny Whitney and Drew Wilson.

TMS/THS coaches and staff members who worked diligently on a variety of health and physical education and athletic projects were Mark Kenney, Jim Lunney, Bob Remington, Barb Russell and Tim O'Connor.

Again, thank you area contractors, businesses/companies, community members, Telstar Middle and High School parents, staff members and students for all you did and provided in the makeover of the Telstar complex.
