MILDRED E. JACKSON
Mildred Elizabeth (Olson) Jackson passed away peacefully at Stephens Memorial Hospital on Friday, June 15, 2012.
Mildred was born in Newry, Maine, on March 27, 1926, the daughter of Annie and Jorgen Olson. She was educated in the Bethel schools and graduated from Gould Academy in the Class of 1944. After graduation she went to Washington, D.C., to work in the Pentagon. While still in Washington, Mildred married her love, Dana Jackson, in 1945.
After returning home in 1946, Millie worked for local farmers with their crops and cut Mica for the Wheeler Brothers. A hard worker, she also worked for the A & P Store for years and later worked for over ten years for the Bethel Historical Society. After retiring from the Historical Society, she sewed for Maine Balsam Fir until just recently.
She leaves behind her devoted son, Dennis Dana Jackson. Millie also leaves behind a brother, George Olson and Dehra of Bryant Pond; sisters, Caroline (Tootsie) Merrill and Charles and Sandra Gunther of Bethel, Linda Olson and Rick of Cornish, Carol Everett and Robert of West Bethel, Melvin’s widow Shirley O’Brian and husband Patrick of Rumford and Florida. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren as well as many friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dana E. Jackson, on Nov. 11, 2003, and a brother, Melvin Olson in 1998.
Mildred enjoyed snowshoeing in the winter besides her hobbies of sewing and reading. She also very much enjoyed being outdoors, and watching the wild life around her home.
Funeral Services will be private.
