Eleanor “E.G.” Truitt, 80, of Auburn, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012 with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Bethel, Nov. 9, 1931, the daughter of the late Adney and Agnes (Seaver) Gurney. She graduated from Gould Academy, Class of 1949 with honors, the fourth of her class. On June 25, 1949, she married Roscoe Truitt, and they moved to Auburn in 1952. She worked at Depositor's Trust Co. before moving on to Casco Bank and Trust, where she eventually was promoted to assistant vice president, retiring from banking in 1991. She then went to work at the Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole Office on Main Street, Auburn and then at American Express Financial Advisors until 1998, when she retired.
She was a member of High Street Congregational Church, where she served on the administration, finance and stewardship board and was a member of the Parish Guild. She was also a member of the Auburn Art Club, Chapman House Board of Directors, National Association of Bank Women Board, American Institute of Banking Board and Credit Women International. For many years, she served as treasurer of the Maine Junior Miss Pageant Committee.
She enjoyed traveling, taking several trips to England, Scotland, Wales. She loved to eat out, especially at Pat's Pizza every Tuesday at noon with her hairdresser friend Irene Roy.
She was a proud woman, using pride in the best sense of that word. She took pride in her appearance, always looking as though she had just “stepped out of Vogue.” She was proud of her home, of her impeccable work ethic, and most of all, she took pride in her family.
She loved sports, especially watching the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriot’s games. She also enjoyed skiing, music, and theater. She loved Christmas and enjoyed decorating, hanging tinsel one string at a time and “titravating” the lights. What made Christmas truly special to her was the time spent with family and Christmas eve services at church.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri DeFilipp of Auburn; her grandson, Andrew Joseph DeFilipp; and granddaughter, Stephanie Elaine DeFilipp. She was predeceased by her parents.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Montello Manor where she received wonderful care.
