A vehicle towing a trailer pulled into the Gardner Roberts Memorial Library loaded with many boxes full of books. The books came from the personal library of Rumford Attorney Richard Whiting and were donated to the library in his memory. Attorney Whiting resided at Rumford Center and also had property at Howard Pond.
The Rumford Grange 115 senior citizens’ free dinner on July 8 was a great success. The officials of Rumford Grange wanted to do something to show appreciation to senior citizens for their years of attending Grange events. The senior citizens ate for free but other folks provided enough income to cover the cost of the meal.
A very old dog named Honey lay out in hot sun in the yard. Watching from the forest edge was a little brown rabbit. Carefully the rabbit crept around the yard passing near the old dog. All of a sudden rabbit scurried back to the shelter of the forest and the old dog never acknowledged its presence.
I don’t care if he is in love or marking his territory or what but I am tired of early morning wake ups from that crazy woodpecker tapping on my steel roof.
Irv and Barbara Robinson had their third bear encounter last week involving their honeybees. They have pictures of the bear running away amidst bees.
The Hanover Planning Board met July 11 to resolve and approve a permit to build steps from a cottage to the shore of Howard Pond.
