First Mollyockett Day '57

FIRST MOLLYOCKETT DAY – 1957

Bethel Bazaar was named Mollyockett Day in 1957. Reason – sailing of Mayflower II. Idea credited to Mrs. Richard Young. Full blooded Indian girl from Old Town “in full authentic dress of an Old Town (Penobscot) Indian” crowned as Princess of Health. Maine’s millionth visitor, Jean Caillouet from Washington, D.C., crowned the princess. Eva Bean and Rev. Clifford Laws co-chaired the event. From Facebook comments received, some women who lived in Bethel at the time remembered riding on the Princess Float in the parade.
