East Bethel
by Wally Ritz
This week we have quite some catching up to do. Many of you may already know that Arlene Harrington turned 78, again, on May 3. Belated Happy Birthday from the neighborhood.
We also need to extend belated congratulations to Bettyann and Sonny Hastings having celebrated their 50th Anniversary. Family and friends, about 16 in all, went to South Portland to the Saltwater Grill for this special occasion and had a wonderful time together. What a nice tribute to marriage, love, and family.
Ann Crockett let me know that she, Esther, Jarrod and his wife Page attended the Republican Convention. Ann spent that Saturday in Waterville with her mom, three sisters, and her daughter, Suzie. Her son, Ricky, called her from Missouri for Mother’s Day also. In this spirit do hope all the moms enjoyed a wonderful day. A big thank you to my daughters, son, and son-in-law.
Now a big drum roll and congratulations to Gloria Crockett! She is the recipient of the Community Service Award presented by our Alder River Grange. I was told that even the rare whip-o-will was out that evening in celebration and letting its voice be heard.
I was asked to also mention the beautiful wood sculpture on the Intervale Road. It shows that if you need to take down a tree in your yard, it can still live on in an amazing way! Just to show that if there’s a will, there is a way. The metal sculptures on the East Bethel Road are another example. Quite the way to go “green” in our neighborhood.
May 22 is the scheduled cleanup for the East Bethel Cemetery, beginning at 9 a.m. Rain date is May 23.
Due to all the late news, next week I will bring you up-to-date about our scholars and also a new Trivia question. So, in the meantime pick up the phone and call 824-3220 or e-mail han@megalink.net.
