Contractors' Day thanks
To the Editor:
On Saturday, May 15, the Telstar Middle and High School complex was busy with a variety of interior and outside projects. This activity was the result of the anxiously awaited second Annual Telstar Complex Contractors’ Day.
More than 60 contractors, subcontractors, community members, high school students and parents, Telstar middle and high school staff and administrators worked on a variety of projects from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The nine-hour makeover consisted of:
--Interior projects: two classrooms and two bathrooms newly painted; installation of new shelving and a dry sink cabinet unit in the middle school office’s work/faculty room; washing of interior hallway walls; assembly of classroom door window blinds; new hallway plants; sanding and two coats of polyurethane to the Telstar auditorium stage deck.
--Exterior projects: electric power installed for the middle school softball and high school baseball fields; installation of decorative fence posts and rope for the high school softball field to define parking; landscaping of parking area behind softball field backstop; removing brush/small trees/leaves along bank of high school softball and field hockey fields; installation of a new flower garden with mulch and perennials at the base of the new Telstar Middle/High School sign; the T-star logo painted on the back wall of the gym; the completion of navy blue paint on the building's trim; high school baseball and softball field dugouts also painted navy blue, high school baseball dugouts’ foundation reinforced and storage closet installed; construction and installation of football coaches tower; installation of a cement pad and wall frames for a new greenhouse; construction and soil prepared for eight raised vegetable gardens; creation of new T-shaped flower garden near complex’s student parking lot; fill and leveling of access road to upper athletic fields and at rear of complex.

Special thanks to Western Maine Supply for their donation of a variety of supplies and materials and to Frank Del Duca of Crossroads Diner & Deli and Karen Milligan of Dunkin’ Donuts for providing Contractors’ Day breakfast. A special note of gratitude goes out to the many parents, community members and Telstar staff for their donations and contributions to the day’s barbecue luncheon.
It was evident as the day progressed, the growing amount of enthusiasm, community spirit and pride in workmanship all had for the improvements and additions to the Telstar Complex. More importantly, I enjoyed and won’t forget witnessing the level of collaboration between Telstar Middle and High School staff and students and area contractors/community members working on the day’s projects.
Again, thank you area contractors, businesses/companies, community members, Telstar Middle and High School parents, staff members and students for all you did and provided during the makeover of the Telstar Complex.
