Although I empathize with all of the folks who’ve complained to me that they can no longer read my column online, there is nothing I can do about the Citizen’s change in their website. Sorry.

Besides the three selectmen, Jim Rector, Kenny Gibbons, Nancy Thew, and Bob Pepler attended the meeting on May 11. Town warrants and the treasurer’s report were accepted. Selectmen voted to allow the Upton Historical Society use of the second floor of the school house for their meetings and displays. A new safe has been purchased for the Town Office. Rick Bouchard was appointed as a full-time member of the Planning Board. Wanda Hall was appointed to the Board of Appeals for 3 years. Carol Norman was appointed to the Board of Appeals for 2 years. Pat Kenyon was appointed to the Board of Appeals for 1 year. Wayne Taylor was appointed as alternate to the Board of Appeals for 3 years. The Selectmen authorized Kenny Gibbons to repair the fence at the cemetery and, at this writing, the work has been done and looks much better. Thanks!

A culvert has been purchased to replace the plugged, unusable one at the top of the hill on Back Street. Signs prohibiting the use of jake brakes from the Route 26/East B Hill junction to the Up-ton/Cambridge town line will be installed.

There will be a Town Meeting on June 3 at the school house. The school budget and several other articles will be on the warrant.

The Upton Historical Society will meet May 23 at the school house.

Ben French, catcher for CMCC’s baseball team, the Mustangs, received the defensive player of the year award.

The Ladies Aid Association’s annual meeting will be held Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m. Lunch and desserts will be served, secret pals will be revealed, new members will be joining, and the election of officers will be held. What a perfect time to share your ideas for the town’s sesquicentennial cele-bration! Speaking of which, how are your plans coming on a float?

Sunday’s breakfast was well attended! There will be a breakfast next week.

We've had some cool weather — hope you didn’t plant your peas yet. Grandpa always said, no mat-ter what, wait until after Memorial Day to plant. Arlene, when you and Bonnie venture up to our cabin, no matter what the weather is “at home,” bring a sweater!

I watched two deer saunter leisurely up my driveway and across my “lawn” the other day — just one of the pleasures I enjoy living where I live! Unfortunately, my camera’s batteries needed re-charging.
