First vote Monday on SAD 44 budget for FY'11

The SAD 44 school budget meeting will take place Monday, May 24, at Telstar High School at 7 p.m.

The proposed FY’11 budget is $9,195,000, down $478,263 from the current year.

On June 8, district residents will go to the polls for a Budget Validation Referendum, for a yes/no vote on whether to approve the budget adopted at the May 24 meeting (listed as Question 1 on the school ballot).

At that time voters will also vote on whether on not to continue voting on school budgets in future years using the current format.

Question 2 asks, “Do you wish to continue the budget validation referendum process in MSAD 44 for an additional three years?”

A “yes” vote will continue the process. A “no” vote will discontinue the process for at least three years, and will provide instead that the annual budget will be adopted in its final form at the dis-trict-wide meeting.

All school districts in Maine are currently completing the third year of the required three-year school budget validation process. The law states that an article should be placed on budget war-rants asking voters what they want to do in the future, according to the Maine School Management Association.
