Newry teen injured in Grafton crash

    A teenage driver from Newry suffered a serious head injury Saturday night in a one-car accident on Route 26 in Grafton Township.
    Tyler James, 17, was driving south when he veered to the far right at the top of a grade on a left hand curve, according to Deputy George Cayer of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department. James overcorrected and skidded across the road and into a ditch.
    The vehicle then struck two trees. James was ejected on impact with the second tree, said Cayer.
    Two other teens riding with James were not injured. Noah Morton, 18, of Newry was in the front passenger seat and Cameron Bouchard, 17, of Upton, was in the back, Cayer said.
    None of the three were wearing seat belts, he said.
    James was transported by MedCare ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with serious head trauma, according to Cayer.
    The crash was reconstructed by Trooper Dan Hanson of the Maine State Police, and is still under investigation.
    The vehicle, a 1997 Ford Explorer, was totaled.
    As of Wednesday morning, James was in fair condition at Central Maine Medical Center, according to a CMMC spokesperson.
