Special town meeting in Upton Friday
Upton will hold a special Town Meeting Friday to elect a selectman to fill out the term of Bob Brown, who resigned last month.
The meeting will take place at the School House building at 6 p.m.
There is less than a year left in Brown’s term.
He submitted a letter of resignation Sept. 11, citing differences with other town officials.
Brown was chairman of the board.
The election of a selectman is the only item of business on Friday’s town meeting warrant.
Selectman Bob Pepler said he knew of no candidates who have announced they will seek the position.
Brown resigned shortly before the town’s tax commitment was to be done. Because the remaining two selectmen, Pepler and Wanda Hall, have not been in office long, Upton hired Wade Rainey of West Paris to assist with setting the commitment, according to Pepler.
The tax bills are now ready and are expected to go out later this week.
