Arlene R. Merrill
Arlene R. Merrill, 88, of Harrison died Sunday, May 23, at her home.
She was born in Albany, Maine Aug. 3, 1921, the daughter of Edwin and Alice Mills Rolfe. She attended school in Mason Township. She had been employed at Sno-Craft and Evergreen Valley. She retired after working for Stephen King for nine years.
She was a member of the Red Hatter’s Society, Past Noble Grand of Mt. Hope Rebekah Lodge, past district deputy of the Rebekah Association of Maine, past chief of Minnehaha Temple, Pythian Sisters of East Stoneham, past president of the State Past Chiefs Association and Grand Junior Protem of the Temple of Maine. She was also a member of the North Waterford Grange, East Stoneham Congregational Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed crocheting. She was able to stay at home with the help of hospice care and her grandson, Tommy, who stayed with her at night.
She is survived by her daughter, Lucretia Rand and her husband Marshall of Harrison; two grandsons, Ricky and April Rand and Tommy and Tina Rand, all of Harrison; great-grandchildren, Eric Rand of Portland and Kenneth Rand of Mechanic Falls; stepgreat-grandchildren, Derrick Cash of Poland and Nicole and Jade of Harrison; a stepson, Kermit Merrill and his wife Nancy of Lakeport, N.H.; stepgrandchildren, Cindy Dinan and Stephen Merrill of Laconia, N.H.; stepgreat-grandchildren, Jaymie Paquette and Chelsea Merrill; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Merrill; four brothers, Nelson, Winfield, Marshall and Harold Rolfe; and four sisters, Norma Jodrey, Betsey Grover, Thelma Card and Ruth Kitteridge.
Family and friends may call at the North Waterford Congregational Church on Thursday, May 27, from noon until 2 p.m. with a funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. including an Order of the Eastern Star service. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in East Stoneham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 87 Elm Street, Camden, ME 04843.
