Judith Grover tent 17 DUVCW met on Monday, Oct. 8, at the Grange Hall with six members. President Vicky Myers read that on this date during the Civil War Brigadier General William T. Sherman was named to command the Union Dept. of the Cumberland headquarters at Louisville, Kentucky; he replaced Brigadier General Robert Anderson, who had been the commander at Fort Sumter, S.C. Elsie Bonney, who is working on names for the new monument, reported she is now getting names from 1900 up to now. Vicky Myers reported on the meeting she and Elsie attended in Stoneham on Sept. 26, which was very interesting. Elsie reported she and Sally gave the program at he Historical Society last month on the History of the Daughters of Union Veterans. Elsie also reported she and Sally attended a meeting in Greenville of tent 23. Elsie and husband, Larry traveled to Boston to attend the reception of National Commander of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. While there Elsie joined the Sons Auxiliary. Calls made were 16. The mystery package went to Helvi Cary. The next meeting is Nov. 12 at Alice Hoyt’s.

On Oct. 21 at the Legion Hall, Locke Mills, the Greenwood Youth football team will hold a fundraiser spaghetti supper with spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert and drink. The price is $7 for 12 and up, $5 for 11 and under. This meal will be served by the older football team. A 50/50 raffle and Chinese Auction will also be held.

Services at the Baptist Church are Sunday school at 9:15; morning worship at 10:30; evening service at 6; and prayer meeting on Wednesday at 6:30. On Oct. 28 Missionary Larry Strout will be at the evening service. There will be a pie social following the service.
