JEAN H. BODWELL
JEAN H. BODWELL
Jean H. Bodwell, 86, died on Oct. 8, 2012 at the Maine General Medical Center. Jean had lived at Hillside Terrace in Hallowell since her husband, Neal, died in 2011.
Jean was born in Milford, Maine, on Jan. 16, 1926, the only child of Gilmore Lewis Harris and Virginia Holmes Harris. She spent her early childhood with her maternal grandparents, Frank Holmes and Mabel Folsom Holmes of Olamon, Maine.
In 1930, Jean went to Stamford, Conn., with her mother to start school where her mother was a teacher. Jean came back to Augusta and stayed with her Aunt and Uncle Helen and Waldo Hill. She graduated from Cony High in 1943, attended Gates Business College, and was employed by the State of Maine.
On Nov. 30, 1946, Jean married Neal Bodwell. They had a very happy life together.
She worked for the State, part-time, while raising their son, Russell, and retired in 1986.
Neal and Jean went to Florida for a vacation, and liked it so well that they stayed for 19 years. Neal got homesick for Maine and his brothers. So, in 2001, they came back, bought a mobile home in Randolph and really enjoyed being back.
Jean is survived by her son, Russell, Thomaston; and three cousins: Janet Musk, Augusta, George W. Hill, Dayton, and Ann Wasgatt of Roseville, Calif; brothers-in-law, Paul Bodwell and wife Sally, Bethel, and James Bodwell, Andover; a niece and several nephews.
Jean was pre-deceased by her husband, Neal, and recently by sister-in-law, Elizabeth.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. in Andover at Woodlawn Cemetery.
