Happy New Year everybody and we hope you all have a healthy and successful year. As usual this time of year we like to look back and pick an item that was especially interesting. This year we chose neighbor Robert (Pete) Barlow for being selected as technical school instructor of the year. He has been a well-respected employee at Region 9 School of Applied Technology for many years. Once again,  congratulations to the honoree and thanks for the effort provided to earn it.

The Hanover Town Office will be open Monday, Dec. 31 (New Year's Eve) from 5 to 7:30 p.m. for those who wish to take advantage of the early pay discount for their taxes. Two percent will be subtracted from the taxes paid in full before closing of business on Monday. Dog, hunting and fishing licenses run out Dec. 31 as well.

The Hanover Select Board held their monthly meeting on Dec. 18 with two members present. One Select Person was absent due to the difficult winter storm that evening. The Board discussed several assessing issues and signed warrants.

Christmas guests of Donna and Clem Worcester were Sara, Shawnee, Makala Worcester, Kaylynn Glover-Worcester and Matt and Jenny Tirrell.

There seems to be a more visible showing in the area recently of the Sheriff’s Deputies and State Police. It is gratifying to have the additional coverage in the area.

The ice floats in the Androscoggin River have collected downstream creating an ice jam dam in the area of McDonald’s along Route 2. In other weather news the snowstorms that turned to sleet and freezing rain were inconvenient. There are some very icy driveways caused by the slush refreezing when the temperatures dropped after the storms.
