Cold and snow? No problem

The bison at the Beech Hill Farm & Bison Ranch in Waterford are well-prepared for the winter snow and cold of Maine. The natives of the Great Plains are kept warm by their heavy coats. During snowstorms, said ranch owners Ted and Doretta Colburn, the animals lie down and, as the snow collects, they appear as white lumps in the pasture. Pictured here are two calves. The smaller calf was born later than usual last year, in October, while the larger one was born last spring.
