ANOTHER DOG PARK IDEA
The creation of the dog park in the proposed site will put an undue burden on the current uses. Many people use the multi-use trail for exercise, children riding on tricycles, mothers pushing young children in strollers, etc. Not all people are dog people.
An alternative area currently owned by Mahoosuc Land Trust should be considered for the site of the dog park (corner of Route 26 and Intervale Road). It is a considerable amount of land available for the establishment of a parking area and dog park. It has a gravel walking trail; fewer walkers, and would not interfere with the existing snowmobile trails. The MLT has been acquiring parcels of land to be kept from development and used for public good. The land was conserved for future public use and the Land Trust can provide the needed oversight (sparing the Bethel taxpayers any burden and liability).
Planning Board members and Selectmen should take into consideration the following:
--No town monies should be used to establish, maintain or make improvements to the proposed park.
--Prior to the park's creation that monies be raised for the dismantling of the park should the committee not be able to maintain the park or park rules.
--That the pet owner be responsible for any cost if the town's animal control officer becomes involved.
-That the pet owner will be individually responsible for any costs if a member of the general public is injured.
--Failure to maintain will result in its closure.
