Hello once again. Our seemingly quiet little town has seen a great number of events since last we met. The Brooke/Wight Family held a reunion on Sunday at Grandpa Owen’s house. All of the “kids“ were home at the same time. Susan, Bill, Randy, Matt, Tom and Scott, along with their spouses, most of their children, their children’s spouses and their children’s children. What a shame that we didn’t get a family photo because it has been several years, I think, since we’ve all been together. We had a wonderful time, everyone is so grown up now, it was really nice to meet again and reconnect.
After lunch we had game of Bocce Balls on the lawn and then walked down to our house for a farm tour where everyone got a chance to experience our giant playpen of a yard where kids and kids alike roam and romp. The two newest members of the family were both present but slept through most of it.
Nearly 50 people were in attendance at Steve Wight’s party last Saturday. A lovely luncheon was enjoyed out on the deck at North Peak including Chondola rides up and down the mountain.
Sunday River also has had great attendance since opening up their newest attraction, a six-station Rip Line at South Ridge. I’ve heard that you strap into a harness, similar to bungee jumping, climb up on to a stanchion where you get clipped onto the actual rip line. Then upon letting go, hurl your body downhill, dangled over the slopes, screaming until you have the voice of Kathleen Turner, but this last part is just hearsay. Sounds like lots of fun for someone much braver than I!
Mandy Berry seems to have had much success selling Avon. She just bought herself a Kawasaki Ninja bike and has had a beaming smile on her face ever since. If anyone out there is looking for an Avon consultant feel free to give Mandy a call.
Anita (Baker) Clark is expecting her sister and nieces from California for a few days. There are eight birthdays and anniversaries in the month of August to celebrate within the Baker family; how wonderful to get the rare opportunity to celebrate together. Oh, and by the way – Anita is still looking for her pot of gold – she would like whoever has found it to please be sure and return it to her.
While I was chatting with Anita, she mentioned that they had had a wedding at the Town Office on Monday. The ceremony took place out on the lawn, pictures and all. The happy couple plan to honeymoon in Camden. Congratulations and best wishes to the bride and groom!
Leslie Robertson and Linda Smith wish to update the rest of us on Les’ health. Miraculously enough the vaccine seems so be doing its job! They only have to travel to Cleveland once a month now, hoping for continued good news each time. In the meantime Les is out enjoying himself, mowing and taking each day as it comes. His energy is returning along with his sense of humor. Despite the fact that he meets such obstacles as a broken mower and the wrong replacement parts right during the height of haying season, Les continues to bestow humor onto those around him. So hopefully he will enjoy this story that I am about to share with you about him “Baling with the Air Band.”
Linda was kind enough to share with me that Les was taking up Air playing while out in the field one afternoon. He was on the baler and she and her grandson were on the other tractor, prepping the hay before him. As they met, making the first pass around the field, it shocked both Linda and her grandson to see Les playing a trumpet to a lively beat, in thin air. The next pass around he was playing the air violin, the next, an air flute. At the last pass, they met Les standing and playing an air organ all while baling the hay!
Les and Linda wish to share their gratitude and heartfelt thanks with everyone who has been pulling for Les during this rough spot in their lives. An extra special “Thank You!” from Les and Linda to those of you who have been such a blessing this year helping to get the hay in: Patrick, Freeman and Seneca, Laura and her children, Eric and Vicki, Vicki’s friend Evan, Heather, Linda's grandson Logan, and to anyone else who may have been overlooked but not forgotten!
That’s all the news, that is news, that’s fit to print, for now. Until next week contact me at sabcart@gmail.com or the good ole’ fashioned way at 824-0836.
