Gilead

I have to admit that I forgot (for the first time in so many years) to turn the clocks back last Saturday night. I spent a good part of the weekend getting ready for election day and answering those pesky phone calls wanting me to vote, that time just slipped away (pun intended).

My brother, Steve McLain, has one of those squirrel-proof bird feeders and most of the time it works quite well. The red squirrels have figured out how to hang upside down just right so they can get some seeds. Last Sunday, there were two of them fighting over who got to eat at the feeder. He also said that he caught a glimpse of a bird that looked like Mrs. Cardinal, so that makes sense since Lise saw Mr. Cardinal a little while ago.

We just bought a squirrel-proof bird feeder and put it out last Sunday. The little birds were happily visiting the feeder and picking out sunflower seeds. We were gone most of the afternoon and when we came home just before dark there was a red squirrel running along the porch railing. I did not see him at the feeder, but my guess is that he figured out how to get seeds without the feeder closing up on him. I have saved the little tag that says “Squirrel Proof” and plan on taking a picture of the feeder (when the squirrel comes back), with the tag attached, to send in to the company. I wish someone would really invent a squirrel-proof feeder!

While I was watching earlier in the day, there were Chickadees, Juncos and finches that found the feeder within no time at all.

Our son, Tim, was at the house last Saturday with three of the grandchildren, William, Ajay and Annie. Sidney, who plays hockey for Berlin, had a game at Plymouth State University Ice Arena.

Not much to write about this week. I would love to get some news from a few people around town. There has to be someone out there with some news.
