William A. Gibbs
William A. Gibbs, 63, a long-time Woburn, Mass., resident, passed away at his home Sunday afternoon, Aug. 1, 2010, surrounded by his family, following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Gail (Kasey) Gibbs for nearly 40 years.
Born and raised in Rumford, Maine, he was the son of Viola (Barnett) Gibbs, now of Mercer, Maine, and the late Arthur C. Gibbs. Following his graduation from high school, he completed his education at East Coast Aerotech in Bedford, Mass., where he studied aviation repair.
He worked for General Electric for 38 years until his retirement three years ago.
An avid sports fan, he played baseball and football in his high school years, and later was very involved in the sporting activities of his children and grandchildren.
“Grandpa” rarely missed a game in which one of them was participating. He also enjoyed watching Patriots' games with his family.
Mr. Gibbs spent a great deal of time with his family at their vacation home at Long Lake in Naples, Maine. His favorite pastimes there were having his coffee on the dock and going out on their pontoon boat.
Surviving along with his wife Gail, and his mother Viola Johnson, are three children, Derek Gibbs and his wife Patti of Bradford, Mass., Brandon Gibbs and his wife Coral of Billerica, Mass., and Danielle Gibbs and her long-time companion Alex Bren of Woburn, Mass.; a sister, Cheryl Bouchard of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Kayla, Cameron and Cortney Gibbs and Taylor and Casey Bren. He was the son-in-law of Jean Kasey of Lexington, Mass.
A funeral service was held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, Woburn on Wednesday, Aug 4. Burial followed in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
