I always have mixed feelings about the fall season. I like the cooler weather and the colors of the autumn leaves, but I do not enjoy the fact that every night it gets darker a little earlier.
My brother, Steve McLain, arrived early Saturday to help set up for the annual meeting of the Gilead Historical Society. Robert and Judy Bishop showed up soon after Steve arrived and Judy got right to work setting up the tables.
Lise McLain went to visit her father, Gerard Dupont, who is in rehab in Ledgeview.
I was in Rite Aid the other day and saw Ernest Angevine from the North Road. We were talking about the progress on the Route 2 construction.
I travel the North Road to avoid the construction on Route 2 and have been noticing all the work that is being done at the Raymond Chapman house. The house has a new coat of paint and really looks great.
Our granddaughter, Sidney Chapman, spent last weekend with us. She attended the Gilead Historical Society’s Annual Meeting and helped out with the potluck lunch.
Due to member availability, the October Planning Board meeting will be held on Sept. 30 (tonight).
Gilead Historical Society
The GHS held the Annual Meeting last Saturday at the Town Hall. There were 22 members present. Besides members from Gilead, there were some from South Paris, Waterford, and Yarmouth. The furthest two were Beverly and her daughter, Kristen Dowling, from Wolcott, Conn. They are relatives of Judy "Daniels" Bishop and descendants of George Daniels.
Everyone had a great lunch and then stayed for the meeting afterward. The officers elected were: President, Steve McLain; Vice President, Mary Tyler; Secretary, Hugh Chapman; Treasurer, Robert Bishop and a Trustee for three years, Andre Dupont. Thanks to Tammy MacDormand for filling that position for the past three years.
The members were updated on projects, such as the schoolhouse, the railroad station and a possibility of gathering information for a new publication. Mary Tyler had recently donated a laptop computer for use by the GHS, and a new printer was just purchased.
