Waterford

This has been a busy week for us usual stay-at-home people. I actually went out two nights this long weekend. I went with Om Devi and Eric to represent Mountain Poets at Richard Blanco’s reading. He read his poetry at Gould Academy in Bethel. He did a great job. He has great stage presence and of course his poetry was quite good. The reception at Bethel Inn was nice, too. Gould would do well to shovel their handicap ramp before there is a really bad accident.

Dave on Sunday attended his sister’s funeral in Rhode Island. Being a snowy day, I opted out, but David, trooper that he is went the distance. He is a good brother even if he doesn’t think so.

Then for President’s Day Dave and I went to the Democratic thank you party for campaign workers. Held at the Oxford Casino it gave us a chance to look at that place. They have a nice room for small functions, but it didn’t make me want to go to the main room and gamble. Too busy for me. It reminded me of a train station during to holidays. Lot of noise and no one going anywhere.

Hope this week isn’t as busy, but oncoming snow says otherwise.

Thursday, Feb. 21, ACOA will meet at 10 a.m. at the Waterford Library. FMI please call 739-9115.

At 6 p.m. there will be a community supper at the Wilkins House in Waterford. Hosts will be Meg Wheeler and Karen O’Brian. Bring a dish full of your best to share and chat with your neighbors.

Saturday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. there is free snowshoe demos departing from Festival Plaza in Bethel courtesy of True North Adventure. There are also free snow groomer rides provided by GreenStock Snow Sports.

Then at 6 p.m. Bethel WinterFest Railways Snowcano Jam will have fun showing off skiing and boarding.

Wednesday, Feb. 27, there will be a book discussion at Waterford Library. All are welcome FMI please call 583-2050.
