NO on 1
Have you ever been to Oxford? It's a town with a lovely central village, a major two lane highway (Rte. 26) that brings Canadian visitors to the coast every summer, and skiers to the mountains every winter. It has beautiful lakes with summer camps and summer residences. It was once the center of manufactured housing companies - still has some, as does our area, though some have closed. It has the Speedway, a New Balance Outlet, functioning farms and lots of small businesses.
It doesn't have a casino and I hope it never does.
I've worked in Oxford for 20 years. I live in the next town. I dread the changes a casino will bring. The hype from the developers is not believable. They've paid for a study and saturated the state with distortions of the study's findings. I'm sure you've heard them.
There are lots of people in Oxford and the surrounding towns who don't have the money to counter the avalanche of pro-casino promises. But, we'd like you to see through the hype and vote No on 1. Thanks for listening.
