The search is on for volunteers following the resignation of Dan Force as the Hanover representative to Regional School Unit 10. With one year gone, two years remain for Dan’s three-year term. There is also a need for two Planning Board alternates and new members for the Appeals Board. The Select Board has expressed appreciation to everyone who has served on a Board or assisted Hanover in some way. Anyone interested in serving on a board should contact the Town Office and express their interest.
The Hanover Select Board met April 16 to take care of the monthly business. The Board welcomed back Frank Morrison after a leave of absence. The Board discussed the issue of winter maintenance of South Shore Road. The Board decided to have a series of workshops to study all aspects of the South Shore Road maintenance. Watch for notice of the first workshop.
The snow has mostly melted leaving behind sticks, rocks and sand. D.A. Wilson, Inc., workers have begun street sweeping activities along roads in the village area. Heavy rains Friday night helped the snow melting process and increased the water flow in streams.
Shawnee and Makala Worcester attended a birthday party for a friend last Friday. The party was set as a circus scene including real clowns, treats, games and prizes. By dodging between the showers everyone had the greatest of times.
The Maine Knights of Pythias Grand Lodge and Pythian Temple held their annual convention last week in Bangor. Attending from the western part of Maine were Danny and Janice Bennett and Michael Bennett of Milton TWP, Craig Turner, Donna and Clem Worcester, Hanover, and Freeman Farrington of East Andover. A special surprise award was presented to Past Grand Chancellor Freeman Farrington. Known as the Golden Knight, the award was also presented to Allen Frizzle of Bowdoinham. The Golden Knight award (for Maine members only) has been used three times since its inception. The Grand Chancellor for this year will be Michael Sanborn, Bowdoinham. The incoming Grand Chief will be Donna Gregory from Jefferson. During the legislative session it was voted to donate $1,000 to Cabot Lodge 117 of Andover in support of their effort to raise funds to restore the stage curtain at Andover Town Hall.
