MollyOckett Day thanks
To the Editor:
What an incredible weekend it was here in Bethel, Maine! With MollyOckett Days, the Tough Mountain Challenge, several weddings, reunions, remembrance services, and much more that brought families and friends together in this special place – we truly are blessed!
There were months and months of preparations leading up to MollyOckett Days – so we were especially grateful that the bad weather forecast leading into the weekend never became a reality. Ten minutes of light rain late in the day was nothing compared to the weather that most of us feared would totally dampen the event. MollyOckett Days is a big undertaking – and the Bethel Area Chamber would not be able to do it without the generosity of time and sponsorship dollars. Thanks so much to the following businesses: Northeast Bank, our Presenting Sponsor, who also devoted much time to helping the Mahoosuc Kids’ Association with their float and also raising funds with their dunking booth! Thanks to Dave Stearns who drove the “lead car” in the parade, which transported the MollyOckett Essay Contest winners – Alison Corey and Liam Gallagher. The N.H. Zoological Park’s wildlife presentation was made possible through the generosity of Nadeau Development and the Rotary Club of Bethel. The Essay Contest winners’ cash scholarships were sponsored by the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum. The Bethel Citizen was both the print sponsor and also provided the MollyOckett Medallion cash prize. Other sponsors of the day were: the Towns of Bethel and Newry, Pepsi Beverages Company, TransCanada, Mahoosuc Realty, River View Resort, Dead River Company, Pine Tree Waste/Casella Recycling, and the Maine Arts Commission. Thanks to the Bethel Inn/Allen and Mame Connors, who sponsored the Frog Jumping Contest and Bethel Bicycle which helped to sponsor the Mahoosuc Community Band in the parade.
The fireworks were spectacular, thanks to Atlas PyroVision Productions and their pyrotechnic, Jim Bennett. Thanks to the following who were cash sponsors of that event: DuraLife Decking/Matt and Glenna Bevin; the Towns of Woodstock and Greenwood; Leslie B. Otten; 22 Broad Street at Gideon Hastings House; Franklin Savings Bank; Oxford Federal Credit Union; Pooh Corner Farm & Greenhouses; Douglass Higgins; Good Food Store/Smokin’ Good BBQ; Pleasant River Campground; Maine Mountain Weddings; Pat’s Pizza and Funky Red Barn.
The MollyOckett Days Road Race and Diaper Dash was great fun on Sunday morning! Thanks to the following sponsors and prize donors: Sunday River Rentals – The Bingham House and The Glen House; All Doyles Cleaning Services; Bethel Family Health Center, Bennett Automotive; River Valley Healthy Communities; 22 Broad Street at Gideon Hastings House; True North Adventureware, Mt. Abram Ski Resort, The BIG Adventure Center, The Bethel Citizen, S.S. Milton, Mallard Mart of Bethel, Mill Hill Inn, and Pat’s Pizza.
Volunteers make this weekend possible too! A huge thanks to the following: MollyOckett planning committee members: Maggie Kroenke, Sara Hemeon, Shelley Bowen, Arla Patch, Aranka Matolcsy, and event volunteers: Chad McGrew, Emcee; Brad Jerome, Glen Holmes, Michelle Mador, Lloyd Sweetser, Dave Freiday, Kim Sparks, Maggie Lore, Rosemary Laban, Bruce Barrett, Gabe Perkins, Suzanne Marshall, Maria Hagi Holloway, Kelly, Zachary and Gabi Stone, Paula and Travis Wheeler, Fred Nolte, Diana Petrakos, Rosalie Holliday, James, Kenton and Bryana Graley, Sarah and Samantha Southam, Sara Hemeon’s Dad, Angie Carroll, Vicki Wilson, Bill Strauss, Amanda Moran, Amy Amann, Jonathan and Rose Goldberg, Carole DelDuca, Ann Speth, Jim Reuter, Mike Broderick, Susan Isham, Noelle Gauthier, Anne Marie Mahar and Doug Zinchuk.
