Black and White Trail update
To the Editor:
Black and White (Whitecap to Black Mountain) Trail Update.
Earlier this summer when the MLT sponsored its first official hike on the Black and White Trail, it was not clearly defined on part of Black Mountain. The previous year's logging operation had obliterated part of the old established trail. Now a pleasant trail through the woods starting just above the top end of the ski lift on the beginner's slope has been reestablished. Leon Akers and Fred Bailey receive our thanks for designing the trail route. Our thanks also go to an Outward Bound group, under the direction of Sean Harrington, who clipped brush and small trees to open up this trail under the guidance of Whitecap Stewards, Bob Duplessie and Leon Akers. Volunteers Mike Simoneau and Jen from Livermore were also a great help.
Now you may hike on a 6.5 mile wooded trail from the Whitecap parking lot on the East Andover Road to the Black Mountain parking lot, or in the reverse direction. Please remember that this trail does not traverse the open summit of Whitecap but passes through the woods on the south side of the summit.
We hope you will enjoy your hike.
