Howard Pond Happenings
Frank Morrison and Dimitri Handanos have completed repairs on the dam at Howard Pond. The gate is now open to lower the water level for the winter months. This is a great time to repair your docks, mark those pesky rocks, and observe the interesting landscape.
Bob Susbury of Log Hollow has completed and submitted his final Howard Pond water test for the season. This is Bob’s 39th year working at Howard Pond as a member of the Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program. Established in 1971, the VLMP’s 1,000+ volunteers monitor more than 500 lakes throughout the State. The organization provides the State of Maine, Department of Environmental Protection with data about water quality, watershed health, and information on invasive aquatic plants and animals. According to the most recent VLMP annual report, Howard Pond is below the State average for algal concentrates. Thank you, Bob, for your 39 years of dedicated service to this important program.
The Children’s Garden located at the intersection of Howard Pond Road and Mill Hill Road has been put to bed. Many thanks to Lynne Ramsey and Paulette Booth for their hard work.
The leaves are falling and the days are getting shorter but take time to enjoy Hanover’s dramatic autumn skies, beautiful sunsets, and broad mountain views.
